The path to a profession: career guidance in the Mykolaiv region

The study showed that the openness of current information on the state of the labor market, the accessibility and quality of education, as well as the creation of new jobs play a key role in preserving human capital in the region.

Currently, the Mykolaiv region, like Ukraine as a whole, is facing numerous challenges, including rising unemployment, a shortage of professional personnel, youth migration from the region, and a decline in economic activity.

The study was designed to study the career guidance needs and interests of the youth of Mykolaiv for a deeper understanding of which professions and areas of development are most relevant here, as well as to develop solutions for adapting to changes in the labor market. Pupils and students, teachers and lecturers, representatives of business and local government bodies participated in the survey. A total of 768 responses were received. Due to the instability of the labor market, the youth remaining in the region face a lack of relevant information. As a result, there is a shortage of qualified personnel in relevant professions and a surplus of workers in areas where the demand for labor is low.
