The problem that brought us to UPSHIFT: young people lack knowledge about the proper distribution and use of recyclable resources
The solution found at UPSHIFT: the team decided to use their own example to show what prospects recyclable materials have. The participants developed a model of ecological benches made of HDPE plastic, which is widely used for the production of lids.
One of these benches is planned to be installed on the territory of the lyceum where the upshifters study. 30,000 lids were used to create it, the total weight of which is 60 kilograms.
During the implementation period, the team learned to organize and control production processes, establish cooperation with contractors, and work with documents. The participants were also able to establish partnerships with local environmental activists, representatives of spaces, and UPSHIFT teams.
The team sought to teach young people to recycle and reuse plastic on their own — the participants conducted master classes together with another team of the 2nd wave of upshifters, “Viva La Vida.” They made phone stands from recycled materials, as well as their own containers for collecting new lids.
Currently, the team continues to collect plastic lids to make new benches. The Upshifters plan to continue holding their own events to spread environmental awareness among city residents, actively involving new organizations in cooperation.
